Keefer Ecological Services (KES) is seeking a self-motivated full-time student with excellent communication skills and attention to detail to join our innovative and diverse team of professionals. The position is for 15 hours per week (on average), over a period of 38 weeks and the applicant must be located within the Columbia Basin. The successful applicant will be well organized and able to enjoy a good work life school balance and is not afraid of new challenges.

Job/Position Summary:

Work will be determined by the roster of projects KES is engaged with and the experience and education of the student hired. The student may engage in activities such as: social media management, writing for various purposes including reports, business plans and media, data collection and entry and conducting literature reviews and summarizing scholarly articles pertaining to various projects. The student should also have above average computer skills including MS Office and an interest in marketing and business development.


Current enrollment in a full-time program related to Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Sustainable Business or related degree/diploma program. The candidate should show a willingness to dive into any task, travel and work in remote areas on various mountainous terrain and through all weather conditions. Attention to detail is key, along with demonstrated logic and experience with MS Excel. The student must be able to work effectively as part of a team environment and independently. The applicant should be in possession of a valid class 5 driver’s license.

Skills & Abilities:

The individual should have a passion for nature and desire to participate in restoring disturbed land. Ample physical fitness and ability to navigate remote work sites is required for this position. The successful candidate will need a reliable vehicle to commute to and from work and should have experience working in accordance with a safety plan and possession of Occupational First Aid L1 (OFA1) certification or be prepared to complete the OFA1 course.

Working Conditions:

The successful applicant should have the ability to work unsupervised, in an office, remotely or in a field setting. Remote work in the field may occur, and safety precautions and company protocols must be strictly adhered to. Employees at Keefer Ecological Services are following COVID-19 regulations during working hours inside the office and outside of working hours. The hired student will be expected to understand and comply with infection prevention policies and practices we have put in place to keep everyone safe in the workplace.
