Position Summary

We are seeking a self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills to join our innovative and diverse team of professionals. The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years’ experience and hold and advanced degree, but we will consider others with the right combination of education and experiences. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Management and coordination of projects and technical studies;

  • Field work including data and sample collection for risk assessment, baseline studies, and environmental monitoring;

  • Develop management practices and mitigation strategies;

  • Preparation and presentation of reports and proposals in both team and individual environments; and,

  • Enhancement of client relationships and development of new business opportunities with both public and private sector clients.

Education & Certifications:

  • Advanced degree in Natural Sciences or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience;

  • Membership or eligibility in relevant professional association (i.e., RPBio); and,

  • Class 5 driver’s license with good record.


Specialized Knowledge

  • Thorough understanding of terrestrial and aquatic species biology, population, community and landscape ecology (i.e., factors limiting the abundance and distribution of species) and habitat selection;

  • Knowledge of analytical approaches and sampling techniques used to quantify the above;

  • Thorough understanding of the vertebrates of BC: biology, habitat requirements and status;

  • Direct exposure to environmental impact assessment and other regulatory frameworks (e.g., Species at Risk); and,

  • Critical, analytical thinker.


Skills & Abilities - Field: 

  • Demonstrated experience in a variety of terrestrial wildlife sampling techniques;

  • Demonstrated experience organizing, coordinating and executing terrestrial wildlife field sampling (including following protocols, recording data accurately and consistently, logistics planning);

  • Experience preparing field reports, summarizing data collected;

  • Experience managing field data, performing data entry, organizing databases and other files for analysis; and,

  • Manage field equipment.

Skills & Abilities - Analysis & Reporting:

  • Perform literature reviews to collect accurate and relevant background information;

  • Draft accurate background information on a variety of local species;

  • Thorough understanding of wildlife biology, species interactions (e.g., predator prey dynamics, invasive species) and species habitats (i.e., understand the variables influencing species’ occupancy and abundance); and,

  • Basic understanding of statistical analyses used to inform biological processes.
