Keefer Ecological Services (KES) is seeking a self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills to join our innovative and diverse team of professionals. This is a paid summer intern contract position for 35 hours per week, over a period of 8 weeks. The successful applicant will be a team player who enjoys a good work life balance and is not afraid of new challenges.

Job/Position Summary:

Work will be determined by the roster of projects KES is engaged with and the experience and education of the intern hired. The successful applicant will engage in: collecting a variety of field data including, but not limited to, assisting in the collection of precision GPS data, assisting in the establishment of vegetation research plots, keying and data entry of Ground Inspection Forms, in addition to conducting literature reviews and summarizing scholarly articles pertaining to various projects. The intern should also have above average computer skills including MS Office and an interest in marketing and business development.


Current enrollment in a full-time program related to Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Sustainable Business or related degree/diploma program. Willingness to travel and work in remote areas on various mountainous terrain through all weather conditions. Ability to collect detailed and accurate field notes. Attention to detail, demonstrated logic and experience with MS Excel. Able to work effectively as part of a team environment and independently. Valid class 5 driver’s license.

Skills & Abilities:

The individual should have a passion for nature and desire to participate in restoring disturbed land. Ample physical fitness and ability to navigate remote work sites is required for this position. The successful candidate will need a reliable vehicle to commute to and from work and should have experience working in accordance with a safety plan and possession of Occupational First Aid L1 certification.

Working Conditions:

The proponent should be able to complete work in the field safely and competently, including spending nights camping and away from home as required. Ability to work unsupervised, in an office or field setting. Remote work in the field may occur, and safety precautions and company protocols must be strictly adhered to. The proponent will always need to comply with all safety requirements of clients. A valid class 5 driver’s license is required. Regular evening and weekend work may be necessary based on the workload.
